The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Bicycle Seats

Units: About 257

Manufacturer: Selle Royal/fi'zi:k, of Pozzoleone, Italy.

Hazard: The plastic scuff guard underneath the front of the seat, which secures the seat rails, may crack or break causing the rider to lose control and/or fall, resulting in a serious injury.

Incidents/Injuries: Three reports of the seat breaking. One injury reported, causing the rider to sustain a mild concussion.

Description: The recall involves Selle Royal/fi'zi:k [cp]3pavé bicycle seat part number 7403SXS 03 9072 with a manufacture date of 10/03. The bicycle seat is an original equipment (OEM) seat installed on 2004 model year Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) brand Novara Express bicycles. The bicycle seat has a clear plastic base with "fi'zi:k", "made in Italy" and a date code dial printed on the base.

Sold at: REI stores nationwide sold bicycles with the affected seats from March 2004 through September 2004 for about $900.

Manufactured In: Italy

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the bicycle immediately and contact their local REI stores for a replacement seat at no cost to the consumer.
