The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Ski-Doo® 2004 MX Z (E) 800 HO and GSX LTD (E) 800 HO snowmobiles.

Units: About 1,613

Manufacturer/Importer: Bombardier Inc., Quebec, Canada.

Hazard: The starter ring gear may crack, causing fragmentation and debris, which may act as a projectile at high speeds. A projectile could cause serious injury or death.

Incidents/Injuries: BRP has received one report of debris from the ring gear, causing a minor injury to the driver's hand.

Description: BRP snowmobiles come in black, blue, gray, white, and yellow. Recalled models are listed below in this table:

Sold at: Ski-Doo dealers nationwide between August 2003 and August 2004 for about $8,500 to $9,800.

Manufactured In: Canada

Remedy: Owners of affected units will be notified directly. Consumers should contact an authorized Ski-Doo dealer to schedule an appointment for repair, free of charge.
