Product Safety Warning Details

Description:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to stop using the following steamers immediately because they pose a risk of burn injuries from hot water:

  • PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer model PS-510 purchased on or before November 30, 2020
  • White PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550 purchased on or before November 30, 2020
  • Black PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550, purchased on any date.

CPSC has received 92 reports of hot water spitting, spewing, spraying, spilling out, leaking or otherwise exiting the PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer model PS-510, including 30 reports of burn injuries, three of which were reported as second-degree burns. CPSC has received 17 reports of hot water spitting, spewing, spraying, spilling out, leaking or otherwise exiting the PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550, including 10 reports of burn injuries.

The prior owner of PurSteam, Rapid Medical, Inc. of Miami, Florida, has not agreed to conduct a recall for the white PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer model PS-510 and white PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550 purchased on or before November 30, 2020, or the black PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550 purchased on any date. On February 5, 2026, Aterian, Inc. recalled the white PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers and white Mighty Lil Steamers sold on or after Aterian’s December 1, 2020 acquisition of certain PurSteam assets.

The PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers and Mighty Lil Steamers heat water and release steam through the product’s nozzle to remove wrinkles from textiles. CPSC’s evaluation found that when overfilled by a small amount, both steamer models can expel hot water from the steam nozzle during use, posing a serious burn hazard to consumers.

The PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer model PS-510 is white with a triangular opening for the steam vents and the “PurSteam” logo printed below a wave-shaped water reservoir window. The PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550 comes in black and in white. There is an oblong-shaped opening for the steam vents and the “PurSteam” logo is printed below the water reservoir window. Both steamer models have labels on the bottom with the model number and the manufacture date (date code), usually in the YYMM format.

These products were manufactured in China.

CPSC urges consumers immediately to stop using the PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer model PS-510 purchased on or before November 30, 2020, white PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550 purchased on or before November 30, 2020, and black PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550, cut the cord and dispose of the product.
