Product Safety Warning Details
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to stop using CARBO Electric Bicycles immediately. The bicycles violate mandatory safety requirements because they fail safety reflector requirements, reducing visibility of the bicycle, and posing a deadly crash hazard. In addition, the model X bicycles do not have protective chain guards, posing crash and laceration hazards.
CPSC urges consumers to stop using these bicycles immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous bicycles.
CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to the manufacturer, Veco Electric Bicycle Inc., doing business as CARBO Electric Bike, of Canada. CARBO Electric Bike has not agreed to offer an acceptable remedy to consumers.
The folding electric bicycles, models X and S, were sold in black with multiple motor and battery power options. The bicycles have “CARBO” printed on the frame post and “CARBO ELECTRIC BIKE” printed on a label located on the seat post.
Report any incidents involving injury or product defect to CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risk of injury associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product-related incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. Since the CPSC was established more than 50 years ago, it has worked to ensure the safety of consumer products, which has contributed to a decline in injuries associated with these products.
Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
