Product Safety Warning Details
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using magnetic building ball and stick sets because they violate the mandatory standard for toys. The sets contain stronger than permitted magnets that can be liberated from the product, posing a risk of serious injury or death if ingested by children. When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other, or other metal objects, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death.
CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to the seller, Shantou Huihuan Toys Co., Ltd., of China. The firm has been unresponsive to CPSC’s requests for a recall.
About 94 units were sold online on Shein.com from June 2024 through October 2025 for about $21. The magnetic building ball and stick sets may have also been sold by various third-party sellers and on other websites.
The magnetic building toys were sold in sets of 25 pieces. Each set contains 16 magnetic sticks of various colors and 9 magnetic balls of various colors and is sold in clear plastic packaging.
These products were manufactured in China.
CPSC urges consumers to stop using the magnetic building sets immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous magnetic building balls and sticks.
Report any incidents involving injury or product defect to CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risk of injury associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product-related incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. Since the CPSC was established more than 50 years ago, it has worked to ensure the safety of consumer products, which has contributed to a decline in injuries associated with these products.
Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
