Product Safety Warning Details

Description:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using Liberty Trike 16-inch and 20-inch electric tricycles because they can tip over during turning, creating a risk of serious injury from falls. The risk of falls is heightened when riding on slopes or uneven surfaces. CPSC has investigated six reports of falls resulting in injuries including concussions, fractures and contusions.

The electric tricycles were imported and sold by Electric Bike Technologies, Inc., of Croydon, Pennsylvania. Electric Bike Technologies has not agreed to recall the tricycles. The firm has represented that it is unable to afford to offer a remedy to consumers.

This warning covers all 16-inch and 20-inch Liberty Trike electric tricycles. The electric tricycles are labeled “Liberty Trike” on the chain guard and “Electric Bike Technologies” on the stem tube. The 16- and 20-inch designations refer to the diameter of the wheels.

About 7,490 units were sold by Electric Bike Technologies online at libertytrike.com from October 2015 to November 2025 for between $1,500 and $1,800.

These products were manufactured in the United States and Taiwan.

CPSC urges consumers to stop using the electric tricycles immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous tricycles.

Report any incidents involving injury or product defect to CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov.

Upon the request of Electric Bike Technologies, Inc., CPSC is including with this warning the comments of Electric Bike Technologies, Inc., to the extent permitted by and subject to the requirements of Section 6(b)(1) of the CPSA:

“Electric tricycles, by their nature, have different turning dynamics than two-wheeled bicycles. During turning maneuvers, weight shifts toward the outer wheel, which can increase the risk of tip-over if a turn is taken too sharply or at excessive speed, particularly on slopes or uneven surfaces. Liberty Trike emphasizes rider education and encourages all riders to operate tricycles cautiously, especially when turning.”

Since the CPSC was established more than 50 years ago, it has worked to ensure the safety of consumer products, which has contributed to a decline in injuries associated with these products.

Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
