CPSC Warns Consumers to Immediately Stop Using HiQiLi Wintergreen Essential Oil Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Poisoning to Young Children; Violates Mandatory Standard for Child-Resistant Packaging

CPSC is warning consumers to immediately stop using HiQiLi Wintergreen Essential Oil because the oil contains methyl salicylate, which must be in child resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Package Act. The packaging for the product’s two bottles are not child-resistant, posing a risk of serious injury or death from poisoning if the essential oil is swallowed by young children.

CPSC urges consumers to stop using the wintergreen essential oil immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away this hazardous wintergreen essential oil.

Description:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using HiQiLi Wintergreen Essential Oil because the oil contains methyl salicylate, which must be in child resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Package Act. The packaging for the product’s two bottles are not child-resistant, posing a risk of serious injury or death from poisoning if the essential oil is swallowed by young children.   

CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to the manufacturer, Huiqili Supply Chain Technology Co., Ltd., of China. Huiqili Supply Chain Technology has not agreed to recall the essential oil or offer a remedy to consumers.  

The wintergreen essential oil was sold online at Amazon.com from May 2022 through August 2025 for about $10. The wintergreen essential oil may have also been sold on other websites. 

The oil comes in white and blue packaging and the bottle containing the oil is amber with a screw cap and a separate dropper cap. A travel-size bottle with a dropper cap is included in the package. “HiQiLi High Quality Life” and “Wintergreen Essential Oil” are printed on labels located on the front of the packaging and both bottles. “Made in China”, lot number, manufacture date, and the expiration date can be found on the bottom of the packaging. The manufacturer’s contact information along with other labeling information can be found on the side of the packaging. CPSC is aware of the HiQiLi Wintergreen Essential Oil also being sold with other essential oils as a multipack.  

These products were manufactured in China. 

CPSC urges consumers to stop using the wintergreen essential oil immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away this hazardous wintergreen essential oil.
