WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Promotional Events Inc., doing business as TNT, of Florence, Ala., is voluntarily recalling about 4,000 Party Poppers. The Party Popper is a rocket-shaped device that shoots into the air when the string is pulled. The cone-shaped top can pop off rapidly, and can hit and injure both children and adults.
CPSC and TNT have not received any reports of incidents involving the Party Poppers. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.
The recalled Party Poppers are packaged in units of four. The Party Poppers were sold in clear cellophane wrappers with blue, yellow and red cardboard headers. The Party Poppers and the packaging are labeled "TNT BIG FUN PARTY POPPER." The Party Poppers are shaped like rockets with 3 ½ inch wooden support sticks.
Wal-Mart stores sold these Party Poppers nationwide from January 2003 through March 2003 for about $2.
Consumer should stop using these Party Poppers immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a refund. For more information, consumers can contact TNT toll-free at (800) 243-1189 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

The recalled torches violate the requirements of the mandatory safety standard for multipurpose lighters, posing deadly fire and burn hazards to consumers.
The recalled Safe & Green 32 oz. fuel bottles contain hydrocarbons, which must be in child-resistant packaging, as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The product includes a nozzle applicator which is not child-resistant, violating the mandatory standard. When the applicator is used instead of the child-resistant closure, it poses a deadly poisoning hazard to young children. Hydrocarbons can get into the lungs, causing chemical pneumonia and pulmonary damage, which can be fatal. In addition, the torch fuel violates the Federal Hazardous Substances Act because it is incorrectly labeled as “Non-Toxic”.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risk of injury associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product-related incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. Since the CPSC was established more than 50 years ago, it has worked to ensure the safety of consumer products, which has contributed to a decline in injuries associated with these products.
Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
