Description:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Levi Strauss & Co. of San Francisco, Calif., is recalling more than 86,000 Levi's brand girls' dresses. The dresses' snaps can become detached, presenting a choking hazard to young children.

Levi Strauss & Co. is aware of one report of several snaps becoming detached from a dress. No injuries have been reported.

There are three styles of Levi's brand dresses being recalled, ranging in sizes 2T through 6X. There are simulated pearl snaps on the front of the dresses. Each dress has a sewn-in label at the neck that reads in part, "LEVI'S ...100% COTTON...MADE IN INDONESIA..." The back of this label displays the product code and care instructions.

Department stores nationwide, including Macy's, Mervyn's, and J.C. Penney, sold the dresses from April 1996 through February 1997 for about $25.

Consumers should stop using these dresses immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. For more information about this recall, consumers should call Levi Strauss & Co. at (800) USA-LEVI between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m PDT Monday through Friday.
