WASHINGTON, D.C. - CPSC, IBM PC Company of Somers, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling 32,000 AC adapters supplied with the Thinkpad laptop computer in the United States. The AC adapter has an internal fault that can pose an electrical shock hazard. The Thinkpad computer is not involved in the recall.
The recalled AC adapters included with Thinkpad models 360CS, 755C, 755CE, and 755CD were sold nationwide after Oct. 1, 1994. Only adapters marked with both Model AA19210 (found on the black portion of the label at the bottom of the unit) and DATE: 9452 or a lower number such as 9451, 9450...(found on the white strip of the label) have the fault.
IBM, which reported the possible hazard to CPSC, has not received any reports of injury from the adapters. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.
Owners of the Thinkpad computer who have questions about the recall or need help in identifying whether their adapter is part of the recall should call IBM at (800) 426-7378 anytime.
