WASHINGTON, DC -- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Perego Products, Inc., of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, today announced a voluntary repair program involving its "Walkie" baby walker. The Walkie models involved were produced between March 1985 and June 1986.
The Walkie walkers contain a plastic height adjustment mechanism for the seat which allows it to be raised and lowered. In at least five instances, the plastic height adjustment mechanism has fractured, collapsing the walker and allowing the infant in the walker to fall to the ground. The Commission is aware of one minor-injury to an infant using the-walker. Perego Products has corrected the problem and the Walkie models currently being distributed are not affected.
The Commission believes that in excess of 40,000 walkers may be affected. The walkers sold for approximately $30.00 in retail stores nationwide and can be identified by the type of plastic height adjustment mechanism used. (See drawing). Perego Products will provide free to owners a repair kit which will prevent the collapse of the seat. Until owners receive and install the repair kit, the walker should not be used.

The recalled nursing pillows advertised for infant feeding and tummy time violate the mandatory safety standards for nursing pillows and infant support cushions because they can obstruct an infant’s breathing, posing a serious risk of injury or death from suffocation.
The recalled baby loungers violate the mandatory safety standard for infant sleep products. The sides are too low to contain an infant and the enclosed openings at the foot of the loungers are wider than allowed, posing serious risks of fall and entrapment hazards to infants. The baby loungers violate the mandatory standard for Infant Sleep Products because the sides are shorter than the minimum side height limit to secure the infant; the sleeping pad’s thickness exceeds the maximum limit, posing a suffocation hazard; and an infant could fall out of an enclosed opening at the foot of the lounger or become entrapped. The portable loungers do not have a stand, posing a fall hazard. These violations create an unsafe sleeping environment for infants, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
The recalled car seat adapters can fail to properly attach to the stroller, which may allow the car seat to fall, posing a risk of serious injury from a fall hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risk of injury associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product-related incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. Since the CPSC was established more than 50 years ago, it has worked to ensure the safety of consumer products, which has contributed to a decline in injuries associated with these products.
