WASHINGTON, D.C. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of product: Professional Hedge Trimmers

Units: 59,200

Manufacturer: Shindaiwa Inc., of Tualatin, Ore.

Hazard: The fuel cap on the hedge trimmer can leak, posing a fire and burn hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None.

Description: The hedge trimmers have red engine covers, a red fuel cap and a label on the recoil starter that reads "Professional Shindaiwa." The recall includes all model DH 230/231 and HT 230/231 with serial numbers up to 3080000. The serial numbers are printed on a nameplate on the engine cover.

Sold at: Shindaiwa dealers nationwide from August 1997 to August 2003 for between $370 and $450 depending on the model.

Manufactured in: Japan.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the hedge trimmer and return the red fuel cap to the dealer for a replacement cap.
