Release # 96-095
WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Keller Industries of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., recalled 29,691 Industrial Type I and Industrial Heavy Duty Type IA fiberglass extension ladders. A support brace located on the ladder's base section could interfere with the operation of the rung locks. If the brace interferes with the locks, the ladder may appear to be securely locked in place when it is not. As a result the ladder could collapse causing a person standing on the ladder to fall and be seriously injured.
Keller Industries sold the ladders under the brand names "Keller" and "Columbia". The following ladders are subject to the recall:

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. CPSC’s work to ensure the safety of consumer products has contributed to a decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 40 years.
