The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff is supporting voluntary standards activities to review performance requirements for gas ranges and ovens to address the operation of electronic control panels. Staff participates in activities for American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z21.1 Standard for Household Indoor Cooking Gas Appliances for gas ranges and ovens.
The CPSC staff received several consumer complaints and manufacturer reports involving unsafe gas range operation associated with the performance of the electronic control panel assembly. Staff believes these reported gas range incidents could contribute to gas leaks, fires or explosion hazards in residences.
