Meeting Registration: OFRs in Electrical Device Enclosures

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff is hosting a joint technical meeting on organohalogen flame retardants (OFRs) and consumer electronics on September 27, 2018, at the CPSC National Product Testing and Evaluation Center (NPTEC), 5 Research Place, Rockville, MD 20850 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The purpose of the event is to bring stakeholders together for a technically-focused meeting to exchange information on the use of additive, non-polymeric OFRs and alternative flame retardant technologies in plastic enclosures (casings) for electronics, existing requirements and standards for flammability performance of electronic enclosures, and manufacturing practices for electronic enclosures, among other topics of interest. CPSC staff is particularly interested in information pertaining to existing practices for fire protection in electronic enclosures including the use of OFRs, and alternatives to OFRs, in electronic enclosures, as well as how the use or non-use of OFRs impacts fire safety. The meeting will include presentations and/or panel sessions.
