Beach Umbrella Safety 2025

May 23, 2025
Did you know that a beach umbrella blown away by the wind can lead to accidents? And even fatalities?

There’s a new voluntary Safety Standard to keep consumers safe and help manufacturers minimize the hazard from airborne beach umbrellas.

The new standard requires that beach umbrellas be able to resist at least 75 pounds of upward force or must remain secure in wind speeds up to 30 miles per hour when installed in the sand.

Here’s what to look for when you buy or use a beach umbrella and anchor. Look for the label that says it meets ASTM F3681 for wind speeds up to 30 Miles Per Hour.

Most umbrellas alone are not compliant with the ASTM standards. They must be integrated with or secured to an anchor that meets the ASTM F3681 Standards.

Secure your umbrella with the right anchor and according to the manufacturer's instructions. Protect your family and enjoy the sun and surf worry-free.
