Decision

The Commission voted unanimously (5-0) to approve publication in the Federal Register of the draft final rule, as drafted, to amend the Commission's rule at 16 C.F.R. part 1120, Substantial Product Hazard List, to specify that extension cords (both indoor and outdoor use extension cords) that do not contain all applicable readily observable characteristics (minimum wire size, sufficient strain relief, proper polarization, proper continuity, outlet covers for 2-wire indoor cords, and jacketed cords for outdoor extension cords) set forth in the rule, as addressed in a voluntary standard, are deemed a substantial product hazard under the Consumer Product Safety
Act.
