CPSC Commissioner Named Honorary Chair of Alliance for Consumer Education

Commissioner Ann Marie Buerkle to serve on national educational nonprofit dedicated to promoting the safety, health & well-being of families and communities

WASHINGTON DC (May 23, 2016) - The Alliance for Consumer Education (ACE), a national nonprofit dedicated to educating consumers on the correct use, storage, and disposal of household and institutional products, announced Consumer Product Safety Commissioner (CPSC) Ann Marie Buerkle will serve as the foundation’s honorary chair, effective immediately. 

Commissioner Buerkle is a strong advocate of prevention education and awareness in ensuring consumer safety.  Through her involvement, ACE looks to further raise the profile of its programs to help amplify its educational messaging to parents and communities across the country on the dangers of misusing and abusing household products.

“It is a privilege to join the Alliance for Consumer for Education Board as the Honorary Chair.  Education and awareness are critical components of consumer safety and injury prevention. I am so pleased to lend my voice to ACE’s impressive and important mission of addressing the challenges of inhalant abuse, disease prevention, poison prevention and product management,” said Commissioner Buerkle.

With her work at the CPSC, Commissioner Buerkle is actively engaged with the consumer product industry, retail, and consumers in making sure that families are safe as they use products to enhance their daily lives. Through their collaborative efforts, ACE and Commissioner Buerkle will work to highlight that proper use, storage, and disposal of household products are keys in ensuring the safety of consumers of all ages. 

“Throughout her decades in public service as a nurse, Assistant New York State Attorney General, U.S. House of Representative for New York’s 25th Congressional District, and now as a Commissioner for the CPSC, Hon. Ann Marie Buerkle has worked tirelessly to protect the health and well-being of our nations’ children and their families,” said Robert Slone, President of the Alliance for Consumer Education and Vice President, Product Development at Stepan Company.  “It is an honor to have her join our foundation.  We look forward to working closely with the Commissioner, and working collectively to protect the lives of children and families across the country.”  

Since 2000 ACE has filled the gap of prevention and awareness education through its core program areas of Inhalant Abuse Prevention, Disease Prevention, and Poison Prevention.  Through key national partnerships, interactive websites for families and educators, and with its materials in use in all 50 states ACE strengthens communities across the country and educates consumers on proper ways of keeping their families safe, healthy, and clean.
