Subject of Closed Meeting:  The Commission staff will brief the Commission on the status of a compliance matter.

Record of Commission’s Vote: On May 17, 2018, the Commission voted unanimously (4-0) to approve closing of the Commission Briefing on May 18, 2018 based on Exemptions 3, 7, and 9, 16 C.F.R. § 1013.4(b)(3), (7), and (9) and shortening the period of notice for announcement of the closed Commission Briefing on May 18, 2018.

Commission’s Explanation of Closing: This meeting may be properly closed under Exemptions 3, 7, and 9; 16 CFR § 1013.4(b)(3), (7) and (9).  This meeting will involve discussion of the following: (1) a matter specifically exempted from disclosure by statute (exemption 3); (2) investigatory records to the extent that the production of such records or information would interfere with enforcement proceedings (exemption 7); and (3) information the premature disclosure of which is likely to frustrate implementation of a proposed agency action (exemption 9).  In voting to close the meeting, the Commission has determined that, on balance, taking into account the relative advantages and disadvantages to the public of conducting the meeting in open or closed session, the public interest would best be served by closing the meeting based on the Exemptions identified.  The General Counsel has certified that the meeting may be properly closed to the public under the referenced exemptions.

Purpose of this Notice:  This document gives notice that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has decided to close the Commission Briefing described above.  This notice is given pursuant to the Commission’s rules issued under the Government in the Sunshine Act (16 C.F.R. § 1013.4(c)(4)).
