I am deeply moved by Congressman Frank Pallone Jr.’s quick action in announcing the introduction of a bill to ban water beads. This bill, born from the impassioned pleas of the caregivers of permanently hurt and even tragically deceased children, will save lives.
Congressman Pallone said at today’s press conference:
“I know people are going to say to me: ‘Do you have to prohibit these completely? Aren’t there some that are safe?’ And the answer is no, there are none that are safe. We have to ban them.”
Today’s bill announcement honors heroes like Ashley Haugen, Folichia Mitchell, Sara Gent, and Taylor Bethard who have turned their families’ tragic interactions with water beads into action to protect others. They, and Ranking Member Pallone through his legislation, are going to prevent more families from suffering tragedy.
