New Safety Rule for Water Beads | WhatYou Need to Know

March 11, 2026
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a new federal safety standard for water beads. These small, colorful beads can expand up to 100 times their size when placed in water and have been sold as toys or sensory tools. However, they can pose serious risks to children if swallowed.

In this video, Acting Chairman Peter Feldman explains the new rule, which limits how large water beads can grow, restricts certain chemicals, and requires clear warning labels. Any water beads manufactured after March 12, 2026 that do not meet the new safety standard cannot legally be sold in the United States.

Parents, caregivers, and toy companies should understand these new regulations to help keep children safe and prevent dangerous products from entering American homes.
