CPSC staff participates in voluntary standard activities related to frame infant carriers. CPSC staff worked with the ASTM F15.21 Infant Carriers, Bouncers and Baby Swings Subcommittee to develop a standard containing performance requirements for ASTM F 2549-06 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Frame Child Carriers. A frame carrier is of sewn fabric construction on a tubular metal or other frame, which is designed to contain a child in an upright position on the back of the caregiver.
CPSC staff is continuing to work with ASTM to address issues related to stability and kick stands for frame carriers.
