WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of product: Hamilton Beach Cappuccino Plus Espresso and Cappuccino Makers

Units: 20,160

Manufacturer: Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex, Inc., of Glen Allen, Virginia Hazard:

Hazard: The steam tube inside the espresso/cappuccino maker can burst under pressure, presenting a risk of injury to consumers. This can occur if the frothing nozzle becomes clogged and the espresso button is pushed while attempting to froth milk.

Incidents/Injuries: Hamilton Beach has received 10 reports of burst steam tubes, one of which included a minor burn.

Description: The recalled units are Hamilton Beach® Cappuccino Plus™ Espresso and Cappuccino Maker, model 40714. They are black plastic and stainless steel. The Hamilton Beach® brand name is printed on the front of the unit, and the model number is printed on the bottom.

Sold at: Internet retailers and discount department stores nationwide from March 2003 through March 2004 for approximately $70.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Hamilton Beach will ship free replacement espresso/cappuccino makers to consumers.
