CPSC works closely with the European Commission and member states to cooperate on consumer product safety policies and requirements. These efforts include discussions on aligning product safety requirements and expert consultation on emerging hazards.
One of our most important partnerships with the European Commission is our joint outreach in China. Every year we conduct industry training for consumer product manufacturers in cooperation with our Chinese counterpart agency, the Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (AQSIQ). These events are targeted to improve compliance with U.S. and European product safety requirements in high risk product categories and to ensure that Chinese exporters take seriously the need to utilize globally recognized best practices.

Fifth Consumer Product Safety Trilateral Summit
Caption: A team from CPSC joined delegations from China’s AQSIQ and the European Commission’s Directorate General for Justice and Consumers for a consumer product safety summit in Beijing, China – the fifth such summit between our three governments. The first was in 2008 and they have occurred every two years since. Our focus this year was on consumer product safety challenges in the area of e-commerce, including direct business-to-consumer, cross-border transactions. The three jurisdictions expressed their continued commitment to international consumer product safety cooperation through the prevention of non-compliant, hazardous consumer products being sold online and elsewhere, the exchange of information regarding hazardous products, and the discussion of emerging technologies and/or the rapid development of new products.
