U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Chairman Hal Stratton issued a statement after the death on Thursday of former CPSC Chairman Susan B. King.

Susan B. King was nominated by President Jimmy Carter to be Chairman of CPSC in 1977. An attorney and former staffer at the Federal Election Commission, Ms. King served as CPSC Chairman until 1980. In the 1980s, Susan King headed the Steuben Glass division of Corning Inc. Subsequently, she served on the board of directors of Coca-Cola Co. and as a trustee of Duke University. Over the 31-year history of CPSC, there have been eight Chairmen. Susan B. King was the third Chairman and the first woman to hold the position.
