CPSC Invites Inventors Of Lawn Mower Safety Devices

Release Date: April 15, 1977

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) invites interested inventors of lawn mower safety devices to an ""Inventors Day"" meeting on May 4, 1977, to display, explain and/or demonstrate their inventions to commission officials.

On April 7, the Commission voted to propose a safety standard for power lawn mowers. The object of this meeting is to bring together lawn mower inventors, industry representatives, the Commission, and its staff so that they will become better aware of the "state-of-the-art," the technical innovations available and the presently attainable level of lawn mower safety. With this knowledge the Commission should be better able to make decisions on the issues raised in public comments to the safety standard for power mowers soon to be proposed by the Commission.

The meeting will take place behind the engineering Mechanics Building (Building #202) on the grounds of the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Inventors may have early access to the area beginning at 10:00 A.M. Demonstrations and discussions will last from 1 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Anyone who wishes to either attend as an observer or participant must confirm attendance by April 22 in writing or by calling:

Bernard Scharf, TLD/OSCA

5401 Westbard Ave.
