CPSC, Pottery Barn Announce Recall to Issue Important Safety Warning for Halloween House Tealight Holders

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of product: Halloween House Tea Light Holder

Units: 5,400

Manufacturer: Pottery Barn, of San Francisco, Calif.

Hazard: Using a plastic tealight in the turret may cause the tealight to flare up, presenting a fire hazard. Only metal tealight holders should be used.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The Halloween House is all black in color with wire-web windows, mesh rooftops and a brick-front exterior. The house is made of metal and measures 14.5 inches in height. The base of the house is a thin, flat piece of metal surrounded by a black wire metal fence. The house holds four tealights on the bottom floor and one inside the turret. "Made In China" is written on a sticker on the bottom of the house.

Sold at: Pottery Barn retail stores nationwide from July 2003 through September 2003 for about $40.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should go to their Pottery Barn store with the purchase receipt, if available, to receive a complimentary set of metal tealights and a warning sticker to place on the item for future users that states: "Warning - Do not use plastic tealights. Use only with metal tealights."
