CPSC Chairman Names Three To Top Positions

Consumer Product Safety Commission Chairman Richard O. Simpson today announced the appointment of Mrs. Barbara Ludden as Executive Assistant to the Chairman.

Mrs. Ludden has been serving as Director of Congressional Relations.

As Executive Assistant to the Chairman, Mrs. Ludden will take over the duties previously held by Stanley R. Parent, who had served as Special Assistant to the Chairman prior to his being named CPSC Executive Director.

Chairman Simpson also announced the appointments of Thomas A. McKay as Director of Congressional Relations and George C. Nichols as Special Assistant to the Chairman for International Affairs and Special Projects.

Mrs. Ludden will coordinate those activities in addition to her other responsibilities.

Mrs. Ludden was appointed Director of Congressional Relations in September 1973. In addition to 16 years of experience with the Congress, she also has served as a Congressional Liaison Officer for the General Services Administration, Director of Congressional Affairs for the Pay Board, and, prior to joining the CPSC staff, as Associate Director of the Cost of Living Council for Congressional Affairs.

Mr. McKay has served as Research Assistant to Senator Charles H. Percy and Legislative Assistant to former Senator Edward J. Gurney. Prior to joining the Commission staff he served as Executive Assistant Manager for the Little Dix Bay Hotel Corporation, British Virgin Islands.

Mr. Nichols recently joined the Commission as a senior standards coordinator in the CPSC Office of Standards Coordination and Appraisal. Prior to that he served as a senior economist for the Technical Analysis Division, National Bureau of Standards. He has also served as a senior economist for the U.S. Tariff Commission. Mr. Nichols participated in and directed a wide variety of special projects on international affairs for the Assistant Secretary for Science and Technology in the Department of Commerce.
