WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Toro Snow Commander and CCR Single Stage Snowthrowers
(NOTE: This recall is an expansion of an earlier recall announced in March 2003.)
Units: About 84,000
Manufacturer: The Toro Company, of Bloomington, Minn.
Hazard: The plastic fuel tank can crack and leak gasoline, posing a risk of fire and injury.
Incidents/Injuries: Toro has received 882 additional reports of fuel tanks leaking. No fires or injuries have been reported.
Description: This recall now involves 2001 and 2002 Toro Snow Commander and CCR model snowthrowers listed below. The model and serial numbers are located on the rear of the axle plate between the wheels.

Remedy: Consumers should contact their local Toro Authorized Service Dealer to find out if their snowthrower is included in the recall. If necessary, the dealer will schedule a time and install a free replacement fuel tank.

Related Recalls
The recalled 300 series snow blowers can unexpectedly go into drive mode and collide with a consumer, posing an injury hazard.
The auger can fail to disengage when the control lever is released, posing an amputation hazard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Liquid Combustion Technology, LLC (LCT), of Travelers Rest, S.C., is voluntarily recalling about 1,500 (in the United States) and 300 (in Canada) Sno-Tek snow blowers. The snow blower's engine is missing a safety shield above the side mounted electric starter, posing a laceration hazard to consumer's fingers.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risk of injury or death associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product-related incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. CPSC's work to ensure the safety of consumer products has contributed to a decline in the rate of injuries associated with consumer products over the past 50 years.
Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
