WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of product: Backyard Products Swings

Units: 47,600

Manufacturer: Backyard Products™, of Collingwood, Ontario, Canada

Hazard: Chains on the swing can detach during use and cause the child to fall to the ground and possibly suffer injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: The company had received 31 reports of chains breaking, resulting in five reports of injuries including a sore back, cut lip, and bumps and bruises.

Description: This recall involves single swings and acrobatic swings sold separately or as part of the Backyard Products wood gym set. Additional options to the gym sets include overhead ladders, slides, swings and forts. A yellow, triangular metal gusset on the gym sets contains the brand name, "Backyard Products™" followed by "Collingwood, ON Canada." Model names and numbers are located on the assembly instructions.

Sold at: Department, toy and discount stores nationwide from December 2003 through April 2004 for between $300 and $1,200 for the sets. The swings were sold separately from January 2004 through April 2004 for between $12 and $16.

Manufactured in: Canada

Remedy: Firm is out of business and the repair program is no longer availabe. Consumers should immediately stop using and discard or destroy the product
