WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kmart Corp., of Troy, Mich., is voluntarily recalling about 50,000 wooden vehicles that are filled with candy. These products may be given to children as toys. The wheels on the wooden toys may break off into small parts, which may pose a choking hazard to young children.
Kmart has not received any reports of incidents. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries.
The recalled wooden vehicles include a red wagon, truck and train and were packaged with candy. The following UPC codes are located on the bottom of the vehicles: 694405900012 (wagon), 694405900029 (truck), and 694405900036 (train). The wooden toy vehicles were made in China.
Kmart stores nationwide sold these wooden vehicles from November 2002 through December 2002 for about $5.
Consumers should take them away from children immediately and return them to any Kmart store for a full refund. For additional information, consumers can contact Kmart at (800) 63KMART anytime or log on to the company's website at www.kmart.com.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. CPSC’s work to ensure the safety of consumer products has contributed to a decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 40 years.
Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly announced voluntary recall by a manufacturer or a mandatory recall ordered by the Commission.
