WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Magic Creations of McKeesport, Pa., is recalling about 30,300 hand-shaped, three wick Bleeding Hand candles. The Halloween hand-shaped wax candle generates high flames that could present a fire hazard.
Magic Creations has received one report of excess flames resulting in second degree burns to the consumer's hands as the candle was moved.
The Bleeding Hand wax candle is hand shaped with five fingers, three of which have individual wicks. The candle flames could reach 7 inches high as the candle melts down to the palm with the wicks of the three fingers burning together. The Bleeding Hand candle is skin-toned with a red colored base at the bottom of the hand's palm. The candle was packaged in plastic, with attached labels reading in part, "BLEEDING HAND CANDLE...DRIPS RED BLOOD."
Specialty gift stores and small chain discount stores sold the candles nationwide from August 1997 through October 1997 for about $1.
Consumers should stop using these candles immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a refund. For more information, consumers should call Magic Creations collect at (412) 672-2300.

CPSC's work to ensure the safety of consumer products has contributed to a decline in the rate of injuries associated with consumer products over the past 50 years.
Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
