Subject of Closed Meeting: Briefing Matter. Date of Closed Meeting: February 1, 2023; 10:00 a.m. Record of Commission Vote: On January 30, 2023, the Commission voted (3-0-1) to close the meeting. Commission’s Explanation of Closing: This meeting may be properly closed under Exemptions 3, 4, 7 and 9; 16 CFR § 1013.4(b)(3), (4), (7), and (9). This meeting will involve discussion of the following: (1) matters specifically exempted from disclosure by statute (other than 5 U.S.C. 552) (Exemption 3); (2) trade secrets and commercial or financial information obtained from a person and privileged or confidential (Exemption 4); (3) investigatory records to the extent that the production of such records or information would (a) interfere with enforcement proceedings and (b) disclose investigative techniques and procedures (Exemption 7); and (4) information the premature disclosure of which is likely to frustrate implementation of a proposed agency action (Exemption 9). In deciding to close the meeting, the Commission has determined that, on balance, considering the relative advantages and disadvantages to the public of conducting the meeting in open or closed session, the public interest would best be served by closing the meeting based on the Exemptions identified. The General Counsel has certified that the meeting may be properly closed to the public under the referenced exemptions. Purpose of this Notice: This document gives notice that the Commission has decided to close the meeting described above. Kristen Talcott of Engineering Sciences, Priscilla Verdino of Laboratory Sciences, and other CPSC staff are attending a meeting with the ASTM F15.42 Furniture Safety Subcommittee to discuss topics related to the standard for Clothing Storage Units/tip over (ASTM F2057). The meeting may also include discussion of Clothing Storage Chests (ASTM F2598), and Tip Restraints (ASTM F3096). The meeting will be held in-person at the U.S. CPSC National Product Testing and Evaluation Center in Rockville, MD on January 31, 2023, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM ET. This meeting was requested by ASTM. Kristen Talcott, of Engineering Sciences, and other CPSC staff are holding a public meeting on testing clothing storage units (CSUs) to the stability requirements in the new CPSC Safety Standard for Clothing Storage Units, 16 CFR 1261. The meeting will be held at the CPSC National Product Testing and Evaluation Center in Rockville, MD on Monday, January 30, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET. Staff will show a video demonstrating the testing and will respond to questions related to testing. These questions are requested by January 16. Questions should be submitted to ktalcott@cpsc.gov.
