CPSC staff to host a meeting on the Flammability of Mattresses, Mattress Pads, and Mattress Sets
CPSC staff will hold a meeting on the Flammability of Mattresses, Mattress Pads, and Mattress Sets. This includes products subject to both 16 CFR 1632 – Standard for the Flammability of Mattresses and Mattress Pads and 16 CFR 1633 – Standard for the Flammability (Open Flame) of Mattress Sets. (The Standards). The hybrid meeting (virtual/in person) will focus on updates to the Standards related to ticking substitution provisions in both Standards and the possibility of restructuring the Standards to be organized by product types instead of by hazard scenarios.
PRESENTATIONS: The meeting will include an opportunity for stakeholder presentations. Staff will welcome presentations on these topics:
- Test method(s) for evaluating ticking fabrics for smoldering ignition resistance and/or open flame flammability performance.
- Considerations for reorganizing the Standards – e.g., clarity, effectiveness, efficiency.
Potential presenters should respond to LSEMeetings@cpsc.gov by October 23, 2024. Please include your name, affiliation, topic, and whether you wish to attend in person or virtually.
DATES: The meeting will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 7, 2024. Individuals interested in presenting information at the meeting should register with their topic by October 23, 2024; all other individuals who wish to attend the meeting should register by November 5, 2024.
