The CPSC’s Consumer Ombudsman will be speaking at a public event, “United to End Child Drowning,” hosted by the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA)
PhD, Office of the Executive Director, will participate in a public drowning prevention event hosted by a longtime Pool Safely campaign collaborator, the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm ET in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The event is titled “United to End Child Drowning” and will include an art display from the NDPA’s “The Clothes They Wore” campaign, which includes powerful messages from five families who have been directly affected by child drownings. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and further unite the local community, which is nearly 20% Hispanic, in addressing the serious issue of childhood drowning. Florida is on track to hit 100 child drownings in 2024. The meeting was requested by the NDPA and is an open event held at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center, 501 Seabreeze Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. For further information, contact Jonathan Midgett, CPSC, at consumerombudsman@cpsc.gov, or 301-504-8120. Transmitted to the Office of the Secretary and posted in the Public Calendar 8/2/2024.
