The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced today the selection of eight new members for the Commission's Technical Advisory Committee on Poison Prevention Packaging.
The Commission made its selection from a list of 93 applicants for the vacancies. The Advisory Committee has a total of 18 members.
The Advisory Committee was created by Congress to advise the Consumer Product Safety Commission on the administration of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The membership is representative of consumers, manufacturers of household substances, manufacturers of packages and closures for household substances, scientists with expertise related to the Act, medical practitioners, and one representative each from the Departments of Commerce and Health, Education and Welfare.
The newly-selected consumer members announced today are:
Jay Morris Arena, Durham, North Carolina, professor of pediatrics, Duke University Medical Center and director of the Duke Poison Control Center;
Paul Baumgartner, Jr., Lexington, Kentucky, assistant dean of the College of Pharmacy, University of Kentucky, immediate past president of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists;
Nancy Hungerford, East Lansing, Michigan, assistant professor of consumer sciences and housing, Colorado State University.
The industry members selected today are:
Craig DeWallace, Toledo, Ohio, sales and marketing manager of the thermoplastic closures division, Owens Illinois, Inc.;
Lloyd G. Dunn, Richmond, Ind., section head, closure section, Alcoa Labs, Aluminum Company of America;
Austin G. Moody, Charlotte, N.C., manager of marketing flexible packaging division, Rexham Corporation;
Edward S. Sipowicz, Willow Springs, Ill., packaging engineer, DeSoto Inc.;
Leonard A. Steiner, Lancaster, Pa., manager, marketing technical services, Kerr Glass Manufacturing Corporation.
DeWallace served a portion of an unexpired term during the past year. He was selected for a full term today.
