CPSC Names Five Consumer Representatives To Flammable Fabrics Act Advisory Commitiee

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission today named five consumer representatives to the Commission's National Advisory Committee for the Flammable Fabrics Act.

The Advisory Committee, established by the Flammable Fabrics Act, is composed of 20 members, representing consumers and industries who are called upon to advise the Commission on issuance of proposed flammability standards or other regulations under the Act.

The five members named today were selected from 102 applicants. The new members are:

Monica Brinson, Buffalo, New York, associate professor of consumer and business studies, Buffalo State College;

Edward V. Clougherty, West Roxbury, Massachusetts, chemist with the Boston Fire Department;

Rachael Dardis, College Park, Maryland, professor in the Department of Textiles and Consumer Economics, University of Maryland;

Kingsley Kay, Greenwich, Connecticut, associate professor of environmental medicine, Department of Community Medicine, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York City;

Teresa Schwartz, Washington, D.C., professor of law, National Law Center, George Washington University.

In addition, the Commission selected Phillip J. Wakelyn, Memphis, Tennessee, to an industry vacancy created by the resignation of Rosalie Zwain whose term was to continue until July 1977. Wakelyn is the manager for environmental safety technology in the National Cottom Council
