Statement of Commissioner Peter A. Feldman on Comment Period Extension for the Proposed Safety Standard on Bassinets and Cradles
Today the United States Consumer Product Commission voted to approve a 45-day extension of the comment period for the proposed rulemaking for a Safety Standard on Bassinets and Cradles. On May 22, 2024, the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) requested a 90-day extension, without providing a sufficiently detailed justification for the full 90 days. Given the complexity of this rulemaking, some extension of the comment period is reasonable to address technical issues. Therefore, a limited extension is appropriate here. Should JPMA provide substantiation for why it needs an additional 45 days, the Commission should consider such request at that time.
