[Patty]: We’ve got a big recall to tell you about this week – about one million Easy Bake Ovens. With me is Julie Vallese, CPSC’s Director of Public Affairs. Julie, why is CPSC recalling the Easy Bake Oven?

[Julie]: The agency is recalling the Easy Bake Oven because it’s an entrapment as well as a burn hazard. There have been hundreds of reports of incidents and 77 reports of burns, so the agency along with Hasbro is asking for consumers to return the Easy Bake Oven.

[Patty]: CPSC just did a recall of the Easy Bake Oven in February. Why another?

[Julie]: The agency and Hasbro are recalling it again because Hasbro frankly wanted to do more. They learned of a partial amputation to a little girl’s finger and said ‘we want to get it back into the company’s hands.’ So the agency has announced that and the agency is a big fan of more.

[Patty]: So what is the fix in this case?

[Julie]: The fix in this case is return your oven and you will get a voucher for products or a future purchase of a Hasbro product.

[Patty]: How do you know if you have one of the recalled models? What’s this oven look like?

[Julie]: This one’s a really easy one. It’s the first time that Hasbro designed a front-loading Easy Bake Oven where you put your cookie pan or your cake pan through the front. It’s pink and purple. It’s very bright. And it looks like a little mini stove.

[Patty]: Hasbro is making this very easy. They are paying for postage is that right?

[Julie]: They’re paying for postage and they’re also sending you a box that your Easy Bake Oven will fit in nice. So all you need to do is put your oven in it and take it back to the post office.

[Patty]: What number should consumers call to reach Easy Bake to go ahead and get this box?

[Julie]: Consumers can call 800-601-8418 for all the information on how to return the Easy Bake Oven.
