Welcome to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Podcast for Friday, June 15th, 2007. I’m Patty Davis.

This week, RC2 Corp. announced the recall of 1.5 million Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Toys. Surface paints on the recalled toys contain lead which is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

The recall involves 22 difference wooden vehicles, buildings and other train set components for young children. Contact RC2 to see if your toy is included in the recall. They were sold from January 2005 through June 2007.

Toys marked with codes containing “WJ” or “AZ” are not included in this recall.

Take these toys away from young children immediately and contact RC2 Corp. for a replacement toy at (866) 725-4407, or visit the firm’s Web site at http://recalls.rc2.com.

Also this week –

Asko Cylinda AB recalled about 130,000 Asko DW95 Model Series Dishwashers.

An electrical component in the dishwasher can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

The firm has received 21 reports of dishwasher fires. Product and property damage has been reported. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled dishwashers include the ASKO model series DW95 with certain model numbers manufactured from January 1995 through April 2000. Asko dishwashers manufactured after April 2000 are not included in the recall.

Consumers should stop using the dishwashers immediately and contact Asko at (866) 309-9921 to arrange for a free inspection and repair or to participate in a rebate program.
