This week, CPSC announced the recall of about 466,000 Intex, Easy Set and Sand N Sun Above-Ground Pool Ladders.
The ladder’s plastic steps can be assembled backward on the support brackets. If this happens, the ladder steps can break and the user can fall.
Intex has received 172 reports of steps breaking during use. There were 127 reports of injuries, including six leg lacerations requiring up to 21 stitches, and five reports of bone fractures.
Consumers should immediately stop using the ladders and contact Intex at (800) 549-8829 to obtain information about how to obtain a free replacement ladder.
Also this week, A&A Global Industries and CPSC announced the recall about 4 million Children’s “Groovy Grabber” Bracelets.
The paint on the metallic band beneath the decorative cover contains high levels of lead. The recalled bracelets are made of flexible metal bands wrapped in decorative plastic covers. They were sold in vending machines nationwide. Consumers should immediate discard these bracelets.
Dollar General Merchandising Inc. recalled about 396,000 Metal Key Chains containing high levels of lead.
This recall involves three styles of metal key chains including a flip flop design, dangling charms and a letter of the alphabet. Consumers should immediately take these key chains away from young children and return them to the store where purchased for a refund or replacement product.
Target also announced a children’s product recall this week. Target is recalling about 18,500 Little Tree Wood Activity Cart Toys because the orange hubcaps on the wheel of the cart can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Target has reported seven incidents of the hubcaps detaching, but no injuries have been reported.
This is a multi-colored cart with an orange seat and a wooden tray. The cart has apple trees, a blue fence, and red, blue and green flowers painted on one side. They were sold at Target stores beginning in July2006 for about $20.
Consumers should take the toy away from children and return the item to any Target store for a full refund.
Sears announced a warning to consumers this week about a label on about 308,000 Craftsman Circular Saws. The “Craftsman” logo label located on the upper blade guard can become partially detached and interfere with the proper operation of the lower blade guard, exposing the saw’s blade and posing a laceration hazard to consumers.
Sears has received two reports of the blade guard catching on the label with one incident resulting in an injury to the user that required 12 stitches.
Consumers should immediately remove the Craftsman label from the upper blade guard, according to the instructions. Instructions are available online at Sears.com. For additional information, call Sears at (800) 659-7026.
And finally, this weekend is Easter, and Gemmy Industries Corp. is voluntarily recalling about 8,500 Disney Princesses Easter Baskets.
Silver beads and ribbons attached to the basket can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. No injuries or incidents have been reported.
The product is a pink and purple plush Easter basket decorated with silver beads and ribbons. “Disney Princesses” is written on top of the basket. Consumers should take the Easter basket away from young children immediately and remove the beads and ribbons to prevent the choking hazard. Consumers also can return the item to the nearest Wal-Mart store for a full refund.
