Patty Davis: Welcome to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Podcast for January 26th, 2007. I’m Patty Davis.

Nychelle Fleming: And I’m Nychelle Fleming Thanks for taking a few minutes to learn about new recalls and safety information announced by CPSC this week that will help keep you and your family safe.

Patty Davis: This week, CPSC announced the recall of 300,000 Holmes Oscillating Tower Fans, more than 46,000 sets of tea light candles sold with Votive Candle Holders from Sally Foster, and about 500 trunks from the Home Decorators Collection.

Nychelle Fleming: First off, The Holmes Group is recalling 300,000 Oscillating Tower Fans because electrical arcing in the fan’s wiring can cause a fire hazard. There are 16 reports of property damage and one reported injury involving minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Patty Davis: The fan’s model number is HT30, and can be found on the silver label on the back of the unit. The tower fans are white. And “Holmes®” is printed on the front of the base. They were sold at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and additional department and specialty stores nationwide from July 2002 through June 2005 for about $30.

Nychelle Fleming: Consumers should immediately stop using the fans and contact The Holmes Group at (800) 524-9204 for instructions on receiving a free replacement unit. Also this week, Sally Foster Inc. is recalling about 46,800 Tea Lights Sold with Votive Candle Holders. The tea light candles have a clear, plastic shell that can melt or ignite, posing a fire or burn hazard to consumers.

Patty Davis: The firm has received two reports of the plastic shells of these candles igniting, causing minor property damage, but no injuries have been reported. The recalled tea lights were sold as part of the three-piece Glass Candle Holders with Tea Lights Set, from the Sally Foster catalog and Web site for about $15.

Nychelle Fleming: Consumers should immediately stop using the tea light candles and contact Sally Foster toll-free at (866) 723-0925 for a free set of six replacement tea light candles with metal shells.

Patty Davis: Finally this week, Home Decorators Collection is recalling about 500 leather-bound trunks. They have an exterior clasp that can lock unexpectedly when the trunk lid closes. If a child climbs inside the trunk, the child may not be able to open the trunk from inside. This poses an entrapment and suffocation hazard to children, though there haven’t been any incidents or injuries with these trunks.

Nychelle Fleming: The recalled trunks were sold in Home Decorators Collection retail stores nationwide and in their catalogs and on their Web site from January through November 2006. Consumers should contact the firm at (800) 464-0164 to get a refund or replacement product.
