BICYCLE SAFETY
Wearing a bike helmet is the single most important thing you can do to protect your brain-and your life-when you ride your bike. Here are some other tips you can use while riding your bike:
- Avoid biking at night. If you must ride at night, wear reflective clothing and add safety lights to the front and rear of your bicycle.
- Obey traffic signs and signals.
- Ride on the right-hand side of the street.
- Check your brakes before riding.
- Give cars and pedestrians the right-of-way.
- Avoid loose clothing or long coats that could catch in pedals or wheels. Leg clips or bands keep pant legs from becoming entangled in the chain.
- Don't ride through busy intersections or on streets with heavy or high-speed traffic. Find alternate routes.
- Walk -- don't ride -- your bicycle across busy intersections and left turn corners.
