The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Scarpa T2X Telemark Ski Boots

Units: About 2,300 pairs

Manufacturer: Calzaturifico S.C.A.R.P.A. S.P.A., of Italy

Distributor: Black Diamond Equipment, of Salt Lake City, Utah

Hazard: The plastic boot cuff can crack when flexed open in an unbuckled, non-skiing position causing discomfort on the ankle or shin, making the problem evident prior to skiing and thus unsuitable for use.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received two reports of cuffs cracking during boot fittings. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The two recalled models of T2X Telemark ski boot can be identified by a dual color ankle cuff and the marking T2X on the outside of each boot (boxes are marked with model numbers: 142045 Men's and 142046). Repaired or replaced product can be identified by a single color cuff: Men's cuff are red, Women's cuff are blue.

Sold by: Black Diamond Equipment, Salt Lake City via [Ski] retailers, mail order and the Black Diamond Web site from September 2005 through October 10, 2005 for about $560

Manufactured in: Scarpa, Italy.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the ski boots and return them to the nearest dealer for a free replacement.
