WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL) today honored Hal Stratton, Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) by presenting him with the ACIL Public Service Award for 2006.
The Award recognizes Chairman Stratton as an outstanding leader of government who has distinguished himself in the advancement of national policy for public health and safety.
"The American Council of Independent Laboratories is delighted to recognize Chairman Stratton's outstanding service as the leader of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which under his watch has strengthened public health and safety and promulgated sound science as the basis for the Commission's decision-making," said ACIL Executive Director Joan Cassedy. "He has encouraged the use of independent laboratories to ensure compliance with specific product safety standards and developed an ambitious campaign to educate consumers to be knowledgeable in their purchases."
Hal Stratton was confirmed by the Senate as Chairman on July 25, 2002. He has served in the New Mexico House of Representatives and as New Mexico Attorney General from 1987 through 1990. Mr. Stratton has served on the Western Conference of the Council of State Governments, the National Conference of State Legislators, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, the New Mexico Judicial Council and the BLM Citizens Advisory Committee (Albuquerque district). While serving as Attorney General, Mr. Stratton co-authored Office of the Attorney General: History, Powers & Responsibilities, 1845-1990 and Report of the Attorney General: Crime in New Mexico.
