In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Estes-Cox Corp., of Penrose, Colo., is voluntarily recalling about 80,000 X-15 Flying Model Rockets. The model rocket’s side or engine retainer ring can separate and cause the rocket to fall without the nose cone separating and the parachute deploying, posing a risk of an impact injury to nearby consumers.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Lan Enterprises, of Portland, Ore., is voluntarily recalling about 21,000 Mini Zooper Doll Strollers. A child’s finger can become caught in the rectangular metal clip or the black plastic side hinge, and this can sever a child’s finger tip. Also, the strollers pose an entrapment hazard.

When pool season ends, many parents believe the risk of drowning also ends, but data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released today indicates 311 reported non-pool drownings from 2002 through 2004 of children younger than five years of age. More than 80 percent of these deaths involved children younger than two years old. The pattern is much different than that observed in pool-related incidents where children younger than two accounted for 38 percent of deaths (involving children younger than five).

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kolcraft Enterprises Inc., of Chicago, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 425,000 infant play yards following the death of a child.CPSC received a report of a 10-month old boy who strangled on the changing table’s restraint strap that was hanging down into Kolcraft’s “Sesame Beginnings” Travel Play Yard where the child was located. Twelve different Kolcraft play yards are included in this recall. All of the play yards have raised changing tables with a restraint strap that forms a loop beneath the changing table, posing a strangulation hazard to a child in the play yard. In addition to the strangulation hazard with the changing table restraint strap, one play yard also has a raised cradle that rocks back and forth. A child can roll and get trapped against the side of the cradle in the Contours 3-in-1 Play Yard. If that happens, a child can suffocate.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), TOBY N.Y.C., of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 23,500 (about 14,000 jewelry sets were recalled on August 22, 2007) TOBY & ME Jewelry Sets. The recalled metal jewelry sets contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Rhode Island Novelty, of Cumberland, R.I., is voluntarily recalling about 850 Children’s Spinning Wheel-Metal Necklaces. The clasp on the necklaces contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Guidecraft Inc., of Englewood, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 10,000 Floor Puppet Theaters. Surface paints on the puppet theater’s wooden panels contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Jo-Ann Stores Inc., of Hudson, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 800 Children’s Toy Rakes. Surface paint on the handle of the rake can contain excessive levels of lead paint, violating the federal lead paint standard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), RC2 Corp., of Oak Brook, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 800 Britain’s “Knights of the Sword” Series Toys. Surface paints on the toy knights contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Target, of Minneapolis, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 350,000 Happy Giddy Gardening Tools and Children’s Sunny Patch Chairs. The surface paint on the recalled gardening tools and chairs contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), RC2 Corp., of Oak Brook, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 200,000 (1.5 million other Thomas & Friends railway toys were recalled on June 13, 2007) Various Thomas and Friends™ Wooden Railway Toys. Surface paints on the toys can contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), BCI Burke Company LLC, of Fond du Lac, Wisc., is voluntarily recalling about 670 Single Post Swing Sets. The connection on the top beam of the swing set can break, causing the swing beam to collapse, posing a fall hazard to the user. A user or bystander also can be injured by the falling top rail.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa., is voluntarily recalling about 1 million cribs. The drop-side can detach from the crib, which can create a dangerous gap and lead to the entrapment and suffocation of infants.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Recreational Equipment Inc.(REI), of Kent, Wash., is voluntarily recalling about 5,200 Novara Afterburner Trailer Bicycles. The children’s trailer bicycle can detach from the adult bicycle, posing a fall hazard to children.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Back to Basics Products LLC, of West Bend, Wis. and Bluffdale, Utah, is voluntarily recalling about 10,000 IT400 Iced Tea Makers. The iced tea maker’s components can fail, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Keystone Manufacturing Co. Inc., of Buffalo, N.Y., and QVC of West Chester, Pa., are voluntarily recalling about 32,000 Cook’s Essentials Convection Ovens with Pull-Out Rotisserie and Deni Convection Ovens with Rotisserie. Wires behind the control panel can overheat, posing fire and electric shock hazards.

In a cooperative effort to ensure the safety of children’s toys, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced an agreement with its product safety counterparts in the Chinese government aimed at stopping the use of lead paint in the manufacture of toys and addressing other product safety issues.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Hayes Company Inc., of Valley Center, Kan., is voluntarily recalling about 83,000 "Avant Yarde" Decorative Glaze Outdoor Candles. The candle's wax can catch fire causing a high flame, which poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Ohalee Inc., of City of Industry, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 36 Ohalee FA-A70 Youth ATVs. These youth ATVs lack front brakes and a tire pressure gauge, the date of manufacture is not printed on side of the tires, and the front suspension is solid and does not allow for travel. Additionally, the flag pole bracket is not the correct size, and the handlebars do not have padding covering sharp edges. There is no storage location for the owner’s manual, and the manual itself does not contain complete information on the safe operation and maintenance of the ATV. These defects could result in an unsafe riding condition, posing a risk of injury to young drivers.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Honeywell International Inc., of Syosset, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 1,000 Apex-Brand Destiny 6100 and 6100AN Security System Control Panels. The memory chip in the control panel could lose programmed values in the event of a power outage exceeding four hours. If this occurs, the panel could fail to communicate with a central monitoring station and not sound an audible notification in the event of a fire or home intrusion.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fisher-Price Inc., of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 8,900 Big Big World 6-in-1 Bongo Band toys. Surface paints on the toys contain excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal law prohibiting lead paint on children's toys.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fisher-Price Inc., of East Aurora, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 90,000 Geo Trax Locomotive Toys. Surface paints on the toys contain excessive levels of lead.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Mattel Inc., of El Segundo, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 675,000 Barbie Accessory Toys. Surface paints on the toys contain excessive levels of lead which is prohibited under federal law.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), NettoCollection LLC, of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 400 "Moderne" and "Loft" Cribs. The crib slats can separate from the side rails, posing an entrapment and strangulation hazard to young children.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), d-Scan Inc., of South Boston, Va., a subsidiary of Tvilum-Scanbirk, of Denmark, is voluntarily recalling about 500 Jubee Bunk Beds. The recalled bunk beds do not comply with federal safety standards and have wooden side slat supports that can separate from the bed frame causing the upper bunk to collapse.
