bullet Hong Teng Trading (USA) Inc. Recalls Electric Oil Lamps Due To Shock and Fire Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hong Teng Trading (USA) Inc., of Orlando, Fla., is voluntarily recalling about 3,900 Electric Oil Lamps. The power cord is not polarized and is undersized. The power cord is not correctly secured and there is no strain relief on the switch housing. Additionally, the switch housing is not flame-retardant. As a result of these issues, the lamps pose shock and fire hazards.
bullet Gamewell-FCI Recalls to Upgrade Software Used with Fire Alarm System Control Boards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Gamewell-FCI, of Northford, Conn., is voluntarily recalling about 700 Gamewell-FCI Electronic Control Boards by Honeywell. Incoming and outgoing messages to and from the control board can interfere with each other, preventing it from sending a message to the command center in the event of fire.
bullet American Honda Motor Corp. Recalls All-Terrain Vehicles for Crash Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Honda Motor Corp. Inc., of Torrance, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 11,000 Honda Model Year 2006 TRX450ER/R ATVs. The front suspension arm ball joints could have been contaminated during production, resulting in rapid wear of one or more of the ball joints and possible ball joint separation. If the ball joint separation occurs while riding, the operator could lose control of the ATV.
bullet Old Williamsburgh Candle Corp. Recalls Mason Jar Candles Due To Laceration and Burn Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Old Williamsburgh Candle Corp., of Brooklyn, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 3.7 million Old Williamsburgh Mason Jar Candles, sizes 3.5 to 5.0 oz. The wick can move from the center of the jar to the side causing the glass to overheat and possibly crack or shatter. Exposure to broken glass and molten wax poses laceration and burn hazards to consumers.
bullet Winter Storms Causing Consumers to Reach for Supplemental Heating
With winter storms and cold weather impacting much of the country, the need for supplemental heating is on the rise. Continued reports of deaths and injuries associated with alternative heating products prompts the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) again to warn consumers to exercise extreme caution when using space heaters, kerosene heaters, and fireplaces.
bullet Sally Foster Inc. Recalls Tea Lights Candles for Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Sally Foster, Inc., of Troy, Mich., is voluntarily recalling about 46,800 sets of Tea Lights Sold with Votive Candle Holders. The tea light candles have a clear, plastic shell that can melt or ignite, posing a fire or burn hazard to consumers.
bullet TAC LLC Recalls “Erie Boiler Boss” Boiler Controls for Scald Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), TAC LLC, of Loves Park, Ill. (formerly Invensys Building Systems), is voluntarily recalling about 850 “Erie Boiler Boss” Operating and Reset Controls. These boiler controls can fail, causing water temperature to rise to the high temperature limit. Should the high temperature thermostat or external safety limit devices also fail, consumers could suffer scalds from unexpectedly hot water during use or system piping damage can result.
bullet Home Decorators Collection Recalls Storage Trunks Due to Entrapment and Suffocation Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Home Decorators Collection, of St. Louis, Mo., is voluntarily recalling about 500 Home Decorators Collection Leather Suitcase Trunks. The trunk has an exterior clasp that can lock unexpectedly when the trunk lid closes. If a child climbs inside the trunk, he/she may not be able to open the trunk from the inside. This poses an entrapment and suffocation hazard to children.
bullet Flojet Recalls VAC Pumps Sold With LeBleu 50-Gallon Bottled Water System for Shock Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Flojet Division of ITT Corp., of Santa Ana, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 500 Flojet duplex II 115 VAC Pumps, a component of the LeBleu Automatic 50 Gallon Bottled Water System. A manufacturing defect can cause consumers to receive an electric shock when the metal housing is touched.
bullet Hair Dryers Recalled by Version-X Due to Electrocution Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Detour Corp., doing business as Version-X, of Studio City, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 18,000 Travel’N Baby Mini Hair Dryers. These electric hair dryers are not equipped with an immersion protection plug to prevent electrocution if the hair dryer falls into water. Electric shock protection devices are required by industry standards for all electric hand-held hair dryers. If the hair dryer falls into water during use and is not equipped with this safety device, it can pose a shock and/or an electrocution hazard to consumers.
bullet Tower Fans Recalled by the Holmes Group Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Holmes Group, of Milford, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 300,000 Holmes® Oscillating Tower Fans. Electrical arcing in the fan’s wiring can cause a fire hazard.
bullet Arctic Cat Recalls Model Year 2007 90cc Youth Model ATVs
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 1,500 Arctic Cat 90cc DVX and Utility model All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). On the recalled ATVs, the handlebar base mounting bolts, tie-rod ends and tie-rod adjustment locking nuts may not have been tightened to the proper torque during the production process. Operating an affected ATV could cause components to loosen resulting in loss of steering control. This condition could result in loss of vehicle control which could result in injury or death.
bullet DS Waters of America Inc. Recalls Water Coolers for Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), DS Waters of America Inc., of Atlanta, Ga., is voluntarily recalling about 8,700 Contact Hot and Cold Water Coolers. A water leak inside the water cooler can create an electrical arc, posing a fire hazard.
bullet Weil-McLain Co. Recalls Boilers for Leaking Exhaust, Carbon Monoxide
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Weil-McLain Co., of Michigan City, Ind., is voluntarily recalling 171 Model 80, 88, 94, and LGB Packaged Commercial Boilers. The boiler assembly is not properly sealed. Exhaust and carbon monoxide (CO) can leak during operation and accumulate, posing a risk of poisoning.
bullet Next Step Plastic Sippy/Tumbler Cups Recalled for Laceration Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Artcraft and Foremost Inc., of Moorestown, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 43,500 Sippy/Tumbler Cups. The impact of being dropped or banged can cause the cup to break into pieces, resulting in sharp or jagged edges that pose a laceration hazard to children.
bullet Geometix International LLC Recalls MagneBlocks™ Toys, Ingested Magnets Pose Aspiration and Intestinal Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Geometix International LLC, of Brookfield, Conn., is voluntarily recalling about 40,000 sets MagneBlocks™ Magnetic Construction Toys. Tiny magnets inside the building pieces can fall out. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.
bullet Graco Children’s Products Inc. Recalls to Repair Contempo™ Highchairs Due to Collapse Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Graco Children’s Products Inc., of Exton, Pa., is voluntarily recalling about 100,000 Graco® Contempo™ Highchairs. The highchair can collapse if it is not fully opened and locked into place from the storage position prior to use. If the highchair collapses, a child occupying the highchair can be injured.
bullet Target Recalls Baby Rattles and Ornaments for Choking Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Target, of Minneapolis, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 460,000 Plush Baby Rattles and Photo Frame Ornaments. Small parts on the plush rattles and frame ornaments can break or detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Additionally, the rattles’ plastic ring can break and expose sharp points.
bullet U.S. Toy Co. Recalls More Children’s Butterfly Necklaces Due to Lead Poisoning
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), U.S. Toy Co. Inc., of Grandview, MO., is voluntarily recalling about 113,800 Children’s Butterfly Necklaces. The pendant on the necklace contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
bullet Kids II Inc. Recalls Teethers Due to Choking Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kids II Inc., of Alpharetta, Ga., is voluntarily recalling about 375,000 Bright Starts Star Teether Beads and Bright Starts Teether Beads. The flexible plastic ring that holds the teether beads in place can crack or break, and the beads can detach, posing a choking hazard to infants.
bullet Nexgrill Industries Inc. to Pay $300,000 Civil Penalty for Failure to Report Hazardous Gas Grills
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing today that Nexgrill Industries Inc., of City of Industry, Calif., has agreed to pay a $300,000 civil penalty to settle allegations that the company failed to report a hazard with its gas grills. The penalty has been provisionally accepted by the Commission. CPSC alleged that the firm failed to report a defect with Nexgrill Gas Grill Model 720-0025 in a timely manner.
bullet Hoover Company Fined $750,000 for Failing to Report Fire Hazard with Vacuum Cleaners
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that Hoover Company Inc., of North Canton, Ohio, has agreed to pay a $750,000 civil penalty. The penalty, which the Commission has provisionally accepted, settles allegations that the company failed to report to CPSC the sale of vacuum cleaners with defective on-off switches that can overheat and cause the vacuum cleaner to catch fire.
bullet Pumpkin Candle Holders Sold by QVC Recalled Due to Laceration Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), QVC Inc., of West Chester, Pa., and Arteflorum Inc., of South San Francisco, Calif, are voluntarily recalling about 25,500 Pumpkin-Shaped Candle Holders. The product can crack, break or shatter when used with the tea light candles that accompany them, yielding sharp pieces of glass that pose a laceration hazard.
bullet Sportsstuff Inc. Recalls Air Pumps for Laceration Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Sportsstuff Inc., of Omaha, Neb., is voluntarily recalling about 11,000 Inflator Air Pumps. These air pumps can overheat and explode during use, posing a risk of lacerations to the user and nearby consumers.
bullet Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings Recalled by Seena International for Strangulation Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Seena International, of Yaphank, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 45,000 Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings. The garments have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children.
bullet Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. Recalls 2007 KFX50 and KFX90 All-Terrain Vehicles
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. of Irvine, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 9,000 Kawasaki 2007 model year KFX®50 and KFX®90 ATVs. On some of these units, the handlebar holder, tie-rod adjustment, and tie-rod end nuts may not have been tightened to the proper torque. Operation of the vehicle can cause the nuts to loosen, resulting in a loss of steering control. This poses a crash hazard, which can result in injury or death.
bullet Cannondale Recalls 2007 Model Road Bicycles Due to Brake Failure
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Cannondale Bicycle Corp., of Bethel, Conn., is voluntarily recalling about 700 Cannondale 2007 Model Road Bicycles. The bicycle’s front brake can fail, causing the rider to lose control and fall.
bullet Family Dollar Stores Recalls Oscillating Ceramic Heater for Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Family Dollar Stores, of Charlotte, N.C., is voluntarily recalling about 35,000 (17,000 with consumers) Oscillating Ceramic Heaters. The heaters can overheat and smoke, which could pose a fire hazard to consumers.
bullet CPSC and USFA Sound Carbon Monoxide Alarm; As Temperatures Drop, Potential for CO Poisonings and Deaths Rises
Every year, winter storms leave carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning deaths in their path. As winter’s coldest months arrive, with temperatures in some parts of the United States dipping below freezing, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) are sounding the CO alarm.
bullet Samara Brothers Recalls Children’s Two-Piece Overall Sets, Snaps Contain Lead
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Samara Brothers LLC, of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 200 Starting Out Shirt and Overall Sets. The coatings on the snaps in the overalls and shirt contain excessive amounts of lead, posing a serious risk of lead poisoning and adverse health effects to young children.
bullet New Danger Label Required on All Portable Generators
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted unanimously (2-0) today to require manufacturers of portable generators to warn consumers of carbon monoxide (CO) hazards through a new “Danger” label. The label states that, “Using a generator indoors CAN KILL YOU IN MINUTES.”
bullet Pentair Water Pool and Spa Inc. Recalls Gas Pool Heaters for Carbon Monoxide Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Water Pool and Spa Inc., of Moorpark, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 105,000 MiniMax® NT STD Gas Pool Heaters. These pool heaters can emit excessive carbon monoxide (CO), posing a risk of CO poisoning in the event of a vent leak in an indoor installation.
bullet DEWALT Recalls Portable Generators Due to Electric Shock Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), DEWALT Industrial Tool Co., of Towson, Md., is voluntarily recalling about 13,000 DEWALT DG2900 Portable Generators. A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) installed on the generator could fail to operate properly, posing a risk of electric shock to consumers.
bullet Nitrous Oxide Systems Recalls Snowmobile and ATV NOS Kit Bottles that Can Forcefully Burst
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Nitrous Oxide Systems, of Bowling Green, Ky., is voluntarily recalling about 16 NOS Kits for Snowmobiles and ATVs. An incorrect burst disc, a component of the NOS bottle valve, may have been installed in the recalled NOS Kits. If the bottle is overfilled and overheated, it could forcefully burst, posing an impact injury hazard to consumers.
