bullet CPSC Warns of Post-Storm Hazards in Tornado-Ravaged Southern States
Tornados and other severe weather across the southern United States, including hard-hit Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas and Georgia, have caused major destruction resulting in widespread power outages. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning residents in these areas that there are deadly dangers associated with using portable generators. Generators are often used to deal with the loss of electricity. Carbon monoxide from generators resulted in at least 43 deaths in 2009.
bullet Cribs Recalled by ducduc Due to Fall and Entrapment Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, ducduc llc, of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 330 fixed-side cribs. The bottom rails on the crib sides can separate from the sides when the mattress is in the lowest position, causing the spindles to separate and the mattress to drop. This poses fall and entrapment hazards for young children.
bullet Heartland America Recalls Wooden Stools Due to Fall Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Heartland America, of Chaska, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 5,850 wooden stools. The legs and seat of the stool can crack and break, causing the consumer to fall.
bullet Toro Recalls Power Clear Snowblowers and Recycler Mowers Due to Fire or Burn Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, The Toro Company, of Bloomington, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 18,000 (in the U.S.) and 5,000 (in Canada) Toro Power Clear snowblowers and about 6,000 (in the U.S.) and 200 (in Canada) Toro 20" recycler mowers. The carburetors on both products develop fuel leaks and can ignite when exposed to an ignition source, posing a fire or burn hazard.
bullet Children's Scooters Recalled by Kiddieland Due to Laceration Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Kiddieland Toys Limited, of Scituate, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 16,000 (in the United States) and 700 (in Canada) Lights and Sounds Children's Scooters. A child's finger can get caught in the hinge mechanism between the steering column and the platform, posing a laceration hazard.
bullet Disney Princess Plastic Trikes Recalled by Kiddieland Due to Laceration Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Kiddieland Toys Limited, of Scituate, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 9,000 (in the United States) and 700 (in Canada) Disney Princess Plastic Racing Trikes. The plastic castle display and the princess figures protruding from the top of the handle bar pose a laceration hazard if a child falls on it.
bullet 75 Drownings and Near-Drownings in 15 Weeks; Pool Safely PSAs Urge Parents to Watch Children At All Times Around Pools and Spas This Summer
With the summer swimming season just around the corner, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) Pool Safely: Simple Steps Save Lives campaign is releasing its 2011 television and radio public service announcements (PSAs) highlighting various water safety steps that can be taken to save a life. In the first few months of 2011, there have been 37 drownings and 38 near-drowning incidents reported by the media across America. Developed with the campaign's national partners the American Red Cross and the Y, the PSAs are being released nationally today urging parents and children to adopt as many safety steps as possible in and around pools and spas. The Pool Safely campaign is the federal government's first-of-its-kind national public education effort to reduce child drownings and near-drownings in swimming pools and spas.
bullet June Deadline Set for End to Globe Fire Sprinkler Model J Sprinkler Recall; Property Owners Should Act Now To Request Replacement of Sprinkler Heads
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Globe Fire Sprinkler Corp. are urging residential and commercial property owners who have model J dry-type series fire sprinklers covered under the previously-announced recall and have not yet filed a claim to replace them, to contact Globe Fire Sprinkler immediately. Home and commercial property owners should immediately submit their claim, as the program for receiving replacement heads will end on June 1, 2011.
bullet Aquarium Heaters Recalled by United Pet Group Due to Fire and Laceration Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, United Pet Group, of Cincinnati, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 1.2 million Marineland Stealth and Stealth Pro aquarium heaters. A wiring problem can cause the aquarium heaters to overheat or break during normal use, damaging the aquarium and posing fire and laceration hazards to consumers. Overheating can cause the heater to shatter or the aquarium glass to break.
bullet Photon Climbing Carabiners and Quickdraws Recalled Due to Risk of Injury
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, CAMP USA Inc., of Broomfield, Colo., is voluntarily recalling about 15,500 Photon carabiners, and Photon and Mach Express quickdraws. The carabiner gate may open under a heavy load, posing a risk of serious injury or death if the climber falls.
bullet Pacific Trade International Recalls Candles Due to Fire and Burn Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Pacific Trade International Inc. of Rockville, Md., is voluntarily recalling about 615,195 sets of tea lights (about 7.48 million candles). The candles have a clear, plastic cup that can melt or ignite, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
bullet Spot Recalls Satellite Communicator Due To Loss of Emergency Communications Capability
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Spot LLC, of Covington, La., is voluntarily recalling about 15,400 Spot satellite communicators. The internal voltage regulator can stop working, resulting in the inability to transmit messages and tracking information in emergency situations.
bullet Lithium-Ion Batteries Used with Bicycle Lights Recalled by GeoManGear Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Datseplots Inc., dba GeoManGear, of Denver, Colo., is voluntarily recalling about 16,600 (in the United States) and 1,500 (in Canada) lithium-ion batteries used with Magicshine bicycle lights. The lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
bullet CPSC Approves New Mandatory Standard for Toddler Beds
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) unanimously approved (5-0) a new mandatory standard to improve the safety of toddler beds. The new federal standard builds upon the ASTM voluntary standard for toddler beds (F1821-09) and adds additional protections to prevent injuries to children.
bullet ADP Recalls to Repair Unit Heaters Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Advanced Distributor Products (ADP) LLC, of Grenada, Miss., is voluntarily recalling about 400 ADP FOA series unit heaters. Some heaters were manufactured without a required flame rollout switch, which is a back-up device that shuts down the heater in the event of a heater failure. This poses a fire hazard.
bullet Lennox Industries Recalls to Repair Garage Heaters Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Lennox Industries Inc., of Richardson, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 440 garage heaters. Some heaters were manufactured without a required flame rollout switch, which is a back-up device that shuts down the heater in the event of a heater failure. This poses a fire hazard.
bullet Wrist Rattles and Baby Booties Recalled by Midwest-CBK Due to Choking Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Midwest-CBK Inc., of Union City, Tenn., is voluntarily recalling more than 10,000 wrist rattles and 11,000 pairs of baby booties in the United States and 600 wrist rattles and 700 pairs of baby booties in Canada. The pom-poms attached to the wrist rattles and booties can detach, posing a choking hazard.
bullet Cub Cadet Recalls Riding Lawn Mowers Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Club Cadet and MTD Consumer Group Inc, of Cleveland, Ohio, are voluntarily recalling about 4,300 Cub Cadet riding lawn mowers. A fuel leak can occur near the rear mounting screws on the bottom of the fuel tank, posing a fire hazard.
bullet Girl's Clothing Recalled by My Michelle Due to Risk of Lead Exposure
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, My Michelle, of New York, NY, is voluntarily recalling about 90,000 girl's tops. The jewelry and decorative trim attached to the girl's garments contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
bullet Redken 5th Avenue NYC Recalls Guts Spray Mousse Foam Due to Risk of Rupture
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Redken 5th Avenue NYC of New York, NY, is voluntarily recalling about 1 million spray mousse foam cans. The aerosol container's liner can corrode over time, posing a risk of the cans rupturing and expelling its contents.
bullet Rogue Fitness Barbell Brackets Recalled by Coulter Ventures Due to Injury Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Coulter Ventures LLC dba Rogue Fitness, of Columbus, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 5,500 Rogue Fitness barbell brackets. The weld between the bracket and the pin that holds the barbell bracket in place on a weightlifting rack can break, causing the weights to fall, and posing an injury hazard to consumers.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Active Leisure Inc., of Yinzhou, Ningbo, China, is voluntarily recalling about 19,000 Active Leisure folding canopy tents. The tents do not meet the flammability label claim on the unit, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

The garments fail to meet federal flammability standards for children's sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injury to children.
bullet Stained Glass Soldering Irons Recalled By Cooper Tools Due to Burn Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Cooper Tools LLC of Apex, N.C., is voluntarily recalling about 69,000 Soldering Irons. The power cord can break at the flex point where the cord attaches to the handle, posing a burn hazard to consumers.
bullet Williams-Sonoma Recalls Hot Chocolate Pots Due To Burn and Laceration Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Williams-Sonoma Inc., of San Francisco, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 28,000 (in the United States) and 700 (in Canada) hot chocolate pots. The handle of the hot chocolate pot can break off during use, posing burn and laceration hazards.
bullet Pampers® Natural Stages Pacifiers Recalled by Key Baby Due to Choking Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Key Baby LLC, of Lutz, Fla. (Pampers® licensed their brand name to Key Baby), is voluntarily recalling about 29,000 Pampers® Natural Stages infant Ortho and Bulb pacifiers. The pacifiers fail to meet federal safety standards and pose a choking hazard to young children.
bullet Arm's Reach Concepts Recalls Infant Bed-Side Sleepers Due to Entrapment, Suffocation and Fall Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Arm's Reach Concepts Inc., of Oxnard, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 76,000 infant bed-side sleepers. When the fabric liner is not used or is not securely attached, infants can fall from the raised mattress into the loose fabric at the bottom of the bed-side sleeper or can become entrapped between the edge of the mattress and the side of the sleeper, posing risks of suffocation.
bullet Infantino Recalls Toy Activity Trucks Due to Choking Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Infantino LLC, of San Diego, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 40,500 (in the United States) and 1,900 (in Canada) Troy the Activity Trucks. The plastic beads on the activity truck's bead runs can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.
