Electric Motion Systems, LLC Recalls Lithium-Poly Battery Pack Due to Fire Hazard
The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Rechargeable lithium-poly battery
Units: About 70
Importer: Electric Motion Systems LLC of Dulles, Va.
Hazard: The battery can overheat and catch fire.
Incidents/Injuries: The company was aware of three reports of the battery catching fire. One incident resulted in a consumer receiving minor burns.
Description: The recalled product is a black lithium-poly 37 volt, 10Ah battery used in electric bicycles and propulsion systems. The battery is 8.75 inches x 5.75 inches x 3.25 inches. “E+” appears on a label on the side of the battery. Recalled batteries have “EMS# 11819-101” at the top right of the label with a serial number between 10001 and 10200. The batteries were sold on their own and as part of the E+ Flex Kits. The kits are complete propulsion systems.
Sold at: Bike shops nationwide and the company’s website, from October 2009 through November 2010. Batteries sold for between $900 and $1,000 and the E+ Flex Kits were sold for between $2,325 and $2,675.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the battery packs. Dispose of the battery packs according to federal, state and/or local regulations. The firm is out of business and a remedy is no longer available.
