La CPSC y Dollar Tree Anuncian la Retirada del Mercado de unas Esponjas de Juguete
WASHINGTON, D.C.- En cooperación con la Comisión para la Seguridad de los Productos de Consumo de los Estados Unidos (CPSC), Dollar Tree Stores Inc. de Chesapeake, VA, está voluntariamente retirando del mercado aproximadamente 288,000 esponjas de juguete en forma de animales. Los ojos de estos juguetes pueden despegarse presentando un riesgo de asfixia a niños pequeños.
La CPSC y Dollar Tree Stores han recibido un reporte de un ojo que se despego. No ha habido lesiones reportadas.
Existen tres tipos de estas esponjas de juguete en forma de animales que son parte de esta retirada del mercado: las ballenas, las tortugas y los peces. Estas esponjas en forma de animales están hechas de tela suave y tienen succionadores para pegarlos al azulejo u otras superficies lisas. Estos juguetes tienen una etiqueta cosida que en parte dice: "DOLLAR TREE DISTRIBUTION, INC.," "MADE IN CHINA" y "RN#87254."
Las tiendas Dollar Tree, Only One Dollar, Only $1, Dollar Express y Dollar Bills vendieron estas esponjas en forma de animales en toda la nación a partir de Mayo del 2001 hasta Septiembre del 2002 por $1.
Los consumidores deben de quitarle inmediatamente a niños pequeños estas esponjas en forma de animales y devolverlas a las tiendas donde fueron comprados por un reembolso. CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of the thousands of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. Deaths, injuries and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $900 billion annually. CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical or mechanical hazard. CPSC's work to ensure the safety of consumer products - such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters and household chemicals - contributed to a decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 30 years.
Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly-announced voluntary recall by a manufacturer or a mandatory recall ordered by the Commission.
